Chest pain is a feeling of squeezing, pressure, or tightness in the chest that can be caused by physical and emotional conditions. It may come and go quickly or last for hours – even days. You may also have shortness of breath, as well as pain in your arms, shoulders, neck, jaw, or back.
A foreign body in the ear or nose, or one that is swallowed can be anything from a piece of food to an object. It can even be something as small as a pea or as large as a cotton bud. The effects of a foreign body can range from irritation or mild discomfort to severe pain and infection.
Head injuries and concussions are serious health issues that should not be taken lightly. A head injury can range from a mild bump or bruise to a traumatic brain injury caused by a forceful blow to the head.
Concussions happen when there is a sudden force or impact to the head that causes the brain to rapidly move and stop in the skull, causing damage to nerve cells. Symptoms of a concussion include dizziness, nausea, confusion, disorientation, headaches, and sensitivity to light.
Newborn care is critical for ensuring a baby's health in their first few weeks of life. One important component of newborn care is bilirubin checks. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment normally found in the blood. Buildup of bilirubin can be an indication of jaundice, a common medical condition among newborns.
Therefore, bilirubin checks are done to identify levels that could suggest postnatal jaundice or something more serious.
Sports injuries are common occurrences for athletes, regardless of the sport. In fact, no athlete is completely immune to them. Sports injuries range from minor scrapes and bruises to potentially serious trauma, and can happen in a number of ways: overuse, direct contact with another player or an object such as the playing surface or a piece of equipment, or inadequate preparation such as not warming up correctly before exercising.
Skin infections and abscesses are conditions in which bacteria infect a cut or wound on the skin and cause inflammation. They are uncomfortable and can cause areas of the skin to become red, warm, swollen, and painful to the touch. Abscesses are very deep skin infections that can result in a pus-filled lump beneath the surface of the skin called an "abscess."
